What Is The Best Font (Typography) For My USDOT Number Sticker Decal Lettering? How To Display Your USDOT Number Correctly?

Did you just get your USDOT number and need to display it outside of your commercial vehicle? In this quick guide, we’ll go over how to display your new USDOT number correctly.

We recommend you display your USDOT number or any other regulation number such as a MC, GVW, KYU, CA number with an easy-to-read font. This can be a block typeface or serif style. Some examples are arial, times new roman, impact.

Your USDOT lettering must be at least two inches in height, and it must be visible from a distance of at least 50 feet away. The color must contrast with the color of your vehicle. If you have a white truck, then you want to use black or dark lettering.

Your USDOT number must also be displayed on both sides of the power unit. Your numbers can be on the door, storage box area, or anywhere that is clearly visible. We recommend you avoid using a sharpie and paper/tape because this is not compliant, and it looks terrible.

If you have any questions, we are here to help.
